Hello there, my name is Mia Sporleder. I would love to tell you about myself; first thing to know, I am a Junior at Middle College High School and a member of Tokay Colony 4-H. This is my fourth year showing market goats through 4-H and I am looking forward to showing at AgFest this year! I work hard in all aspects of life. I am currently maintaining a 4.0 GPA by having straight A’s throughout my high school classes. Along with high school, I also take college courses at Delta College to excel my education. Along with school, I work when I can at my parent’s agricultural equipment shop all while competing in gymnastics. This year I qualified and competed at Regionals in Long Beach.  Keeping busy, achieving my goals, and working hard has always been quite important to me. Raising and showing goats at AgFest has provided me with so many opportunities to learn and experience new things.

I’d love to tell you about my goat I am raising this year, Romeo. I purchased him on March 19th which has given me plenty of time to spend with him and learn so much about his personality and quirks. Romeo is quite the character. When I go out to play with him, he always jumps around especially on his two hind legs. He also loves to jump from these big tires my dad and I dug into the ground for my goat projects. I have been working with Romeo extensively to ensure he is in the best condition possible for fair. I have been sure to play with him and walk him, so he builds muscle and bonds with me. He has always had a big personality from the start. He loves to get all up in your business and loves attention more than any goat I have ever met. He is such a friendly goat. He will always do crazy jumps and runs for attention and to get everyone smiling. I have had such a great time being able to work with him and his silly personality. Romeo makes sure every day is something new and exciting!

The minimum weight to sell a goat at the fair is 60lbs and I am happy to say that as of May 19th Romeo has already made weight, as he was 68lbs. I have done calculations in order to determine that Romeo puts on approximately ½ of a pound every day. This means that Romeo will be the optimum weight for the fair and will be show ready. Romeo was able to get to this weight because I feed him his quality feed twice a day and I work with him to ensure he builds lots of muscle. I work with him in various ways. I take him on walks, run around with him in his pen, and practice setting him up. “Setting up” is a term used to describe how to place the species legs to best show off the different muscles in the skeleton. Everything I have been doing is to work on my showmanship skills all while exercising Romeo. This ensures both Romeo and I are prepared and ready for fair.

I am very excited for AgFest this year! This will be my fourth year selling goats and I am hoping that it will be my best year yet. This year you are able to come down and participate in the live auction on Saturday June 17th or bid simultaneously online from the comfort of your home or smartphone. If you are unable to come, bid on my goat but would like to show your support there are other ways to do so. Donating to my scholarship fund or even contributing to an add-on are great ways to show your support. Any money earned or donated will go towards funding my future projects and set aside for my college education. All donations or forms of support is greatly appreciated and helps immensely.

I have had so much fun working with my goat Romeo this year. It has been such a pleasure getting to work with him and he has helped me understand the responsibility, time management, and the effort it takes to take on a project such as this. I understand that Romeo will only be as good as what I give and provide him with. His success is my own and this is why I always make sure he is well cared for and loved. Thank you so much for taking the time to read about my project this year. Your support is very much appreciated!

BIDDING TYPES: Bidding is done in increments and will vary by lot according to the current price or request of specific consignor and/or governing body such as a specific fair or show board. Bidding Users have one of two choices for bidding style. 1) “Max Bid” style which allows bidders to enter the maximum amount they wish to spend and allow the system to bid on your behalf by the published increments as other Users compete against your maximum bid. 2) “Regular Bid” style allows bidders to enter a bid that will become the new highest bid, unless another User has entered a higher “Max Bid”, passing all other increments. With either option, Users should be aware that they may be out bid minutes before the close of the online auction and may not have the opportunity to enter another bid. You should automatically receive notification by email and/or text if another bidder outbids your maximum bid, however you should not rely solely on this email and/or text notification.
