Hi my name is Maci Childress and this passage is about my market steer Benji. Benji is a very good steer....at times. When I got Benji from my grandad, Steve Hopkins, he was very friendly until I started halter breaking him. Once I started halter breaking Benji, he became less and less friendly sometimes not even letting me near him. The first time I gave Benji a bath he wasn't much a fan of it, but as soon as he realized that he liked it he was excited for baths. For example, my chute is right in front of his pen so he can tell when he's getting a bath because, he can see me getting everything ready. When Benji sees that he will run up to the fence and get so excited to be washed. It took us a bit but we realized after the SMILE show that Benji definitely preferred me over my stepdad, Mark. Mark helped me halter break him. Benji seems like another cow when walking with Mark, but if I lead him he is a lot calmer. I think Benji's overall look is pretty good. If I could change one things about him, I would change his flank. I would pull it in some and make it look cleaner. I know you can diet them and use a neck sweat for that, but it is only my second year with a steer. Overall, I think Benji is a very good steer. I hope this helped you learn more about my market steer!
I am a member in the Southern Maryland Agriculture Development Commission Program (SMADC). I would like to say a special thank you to David Goodman for purchasing my market steer last year, thank you for supporting me. I plan to use this year's earnings for my future 4H project and my college. I hope this helped you get to know me and what I do for 4h.
